About Ida Therén
I am a Swedish freelance writer based in the US, where I live with my daughter. I am a staff book critic at daily Svenska Dagbladet but I also work for a range of other newspapers and magazines, mainly as a cultural critic and columnist but also with longer interviews and features. I do international contributing for Coolhunting.
I have been a regular guest in a range of TV and radio shows in Sweden, such as popular morning show Malou efter tio and evening show Breaking News. Collected articles 2007-2017 came out in book form 2017, published by Mondial, named "Frihet, jämlikhet & systerskap" (Freedom, equality & sisterhood).
My main subjects are literature, art, contemporary culture, intersectional feminism, parenting and spirituality.
I was born in 1985 in a small town in Sweden but I have lived outside the country for almost a decade. I worked as a model internationally for some years and I have done some acting as well (with small parts in Blondie, Nånting måste gå sönder and Girl with the dragon tattoo).
I have been a vegetarian and interested in yoga and meditation for over 15 years, and I also work with reiki healing, to balance the long days in front of the computer.
Since 2010 freelance writing is my main job, and since around the same time I have also worked on a biographical novel about June Mansfield, the wife of Henry Miller (the Mona of his novels) and the love interest in Anaïs Nins "Henry & June". It's now wrapping up and hopefully it will be out soon in both Sweden and in English translation.
More trivia: For some years (5 printed issues) I ran a bilingual literary magazine of contemporary Swedish fiction called CONST Literary Preview, and I have published three children's books.
